SUSTAINABLE HIGH-END BAGS
SUSTAINABLE HIGH-END BAGS (CHANEL, MIU MIU ETC.)
Who doesn’t love a good designer bag, but most people ignore the fact that the leather used in their expensive bags are not sustainable and are a by-product of the meat industry but comes from animals killed primarily for their skins. Cows, goats, pigs, sheep, lambs, horses, deer, kangaroos, snakes, alligators and elephants are the victims of the leather industry for the sole purpose of making bags and what not.
I’ve tried to curate a list of designer bags available online, that are sustainable and can be added to your wardrobe without making you feel guilty. They are not the best-looking bags for sure because unfortunately, these brands have reckless indulgence and reliance on animal skins, fur, and feathers.
Also, make sure to check out my post about Affordable, Cruelty-Free bags!
As most people would know, Stella McCartney has been bringing sustainability to the modern fashion. McCartney relies on sustainable and cruelty-free fabrics to showcase her designs which have no room for real skins. Therefore every bag on her website and on e-commerce websites can blindly be bought without reading the composition label.
The “LOVE MOSCHINO” collection by Moschino is a line dedicated to this cause and they have a decent collection. It is placed in a separate tab on their official website and is available on other popular e-commerce websites as well.
Chanel Vintage collection is available at farfetch.com which has a few canvas bags that can be bought guilt-free & few of them do look like a denim version of Chanel Boy and Chanel Flap bags.
These Miu Miu bags are made of straw, canvas & raffia & one can take them on a beach trip or a picnic LOL.
When it comes to Prada, all I could find were these two totes. Oh, how I wish these companies came out with more sustainable options!
And more totes…do we really need more?
The flap bags are made of polyester and polyurethane and the backpack and tote are made of canvas.
Philipp Plein & Chiara Ferragni
Their backpacks are chic and who doesn’t love black? They look very much like leather but are composed of polyester, polyurethane, and metal.
They have some canvas duffle bags that can be used for your daily trips to the gym. They are composed of polyamide, nylon, and polyester.
The black backpack is composed of nylon whereas the pink tote is composed of cotton and they’re actually not that bad!
COMME des GARCONS
Since plastic- like shoes are quite trendy these days, one can use a similar bag. These comme des garcons bags are composed of PVC, polyurethane resin & polyethylene-vinyl acetate.
They have a large variety of backpacks on their official site, in many colors and sizes. They are composed of canvas, polyester and nylon. Their official website is a better place to buy these bags as other websites don’t have many designs.
GUCCI & BURBERRY
The only non-cruel bags I could find online were these shopper bags…
JIMMY CHOO and OSCAR DE LA RENTA
These party clutches can make you feel good about yourself as not only they have no skins but also they look gorgeous!
CALVIN KLEIN and GIVENCHY
Givenchy antigona bag was produced in a vegan form as well but unfortunately, I could only find the leather antigonas online.
They have quite a collection of different designs and colors. Some of them are linked in the pictures. They are composed of 100% polyurethane.
CHLOE, MARC JACOBS AND EMILIO PUCCI
These companies with their extraordinary designs should come up with ethical, sustainable bags, but unfortunately, till then, people like us will have to read the composition labels before buying them.
Please feel free to leave your thoughts down below and mention the bags that you think I have missed out, which is most likely to happen. None of the links in the slideshow are affiliated. This post is only meant for sharing information.
THANK YOU. XO. 🙂
